Before you set out on looking for employment, take time to internalize what this “job security” that everyone is yearning for is. What guarantees that indeed there will be security? Health insurance is rising, people are retiring without any plans, and pay rates across industries have fallen. Seems like the job security everyone is talking about is just not there. Before you start looking for a job, have you considered being self-employed?
Being self-employed offers you more financial security than being employed. True, you may not be sure of your income at the end of the month. However, if you put effort in your business, money will not be a problem. There is nothing which feels as good as doing something you love. This is what self-employment offers. Moreover, you will feel better knowing that you don’t have to dance to someone’s tune.
But you may ask, “What happens when I want a loan, but have no proof of being employed?” Such thoughts will prevent you from taking control of your destiny and starting your own business. There are many lenders who offer self-employed people financing. Moreover, if your business is generating substantial revenues, there is no reason why you will be denied a loan.
If you are already employed, quitting your job to become self-employed is not necessary. The current economic conditions are hard and anything that can earn you an extra dollar is worth trying. You can, however, set up a business on the side and put people in charge. When retirement time comes, you will have a venture generating you with regular income.
Life is about taking risks. One of the risks is daring to venture into self employment. The returns are satisfaction, control, freedom and security.
